How to play

Every morning GuffBot sets up a game that's already under way on the Power Board and deals you eight tiles. Your job: find the play that scores the most. You get one go.

  • Tap a tile, then the square it goes on, or drag it there. Once two tiles are down in a line, just tap the rest in order and they follow on, whichever way you're going. Drag tiles along your rack to rearrange them. On a keyboard, click a square and type (click it again to go down).
  • Your tiles must sit in one line and join what's on the board. Every word you make along the way has to be a word too.
  • GuffBot checks as you lay tiles: green means it's a real play, and shows what it scores.
  • Premium squares count when you cover them: 2L 3L double or triple the letter, 2W 3W 4W multiply the whole word.
  • Use seven tiles in one play for a 40 point bonus, all eight for 50.
  • Speed bonus: up to a fifth of your score again for playing quickly. There's no clock on screen: it drains away over three minutes, and after that take as long as you like.
  • The best play never needs an obscure word. Two-letter words are all fair game.
  • A new board every morning at midnight, UK time.
